Volunteers will celebrate National Trails Day on June 1 ?at locations throughout the Issaquah area, and you can join in to improve the community?s recreation opportunities.

American Hiking Society?s?National Trails Day?is a trail-awareness program to inspire the public to discover, learn about and celebrate trails while participating in outdoor activities and trail stewardship projects.

Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust volunteers will celebrate National Trails Day by working on trails on Tiger Mountain, just east of Issaquah.
Volunteers will conduct ecological restoration and invasive weed removal along popular trails on Tiger Mountain. Register at the?Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust website.

With trails managed by both the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and the City of Issaquah, Tiger Mountain is a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers, hang gliders, paragliders and horseback riders.

Its trails bring visitors through the remains of old-growth forests left over from the region?s logging past. Volunteers will remove invasive weeds to ensure healthy forest habitat.

In celebration of National Trails Day, King County Parks? Parks & Trails Ambassador volunteers will host information stations from 9-11 a.m., where residents can learn about various trails networks, recreation and volunteer opportunities, and native wildlife and habitat.

In the area, information stations will be located at:

? Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, Sky Country Trailhead, 166th Way Southeast, off of East Cougar Mountain Way
? Taylor Mountain Forest, 276th Avenue Southeast, just past State Route 18
? Soaring Eagle Park, 26015 E. Main Drive

Contact Volunteer Program Manager Laurie Clinton, at 206-296-4452 or viaemail, to sign up for a volunteer work party, or to learn more.
