Via iPhone and Android apps, users can select a specific business, choose an employee at the business and rate the service with a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

With Tello?s mobile apps, people can even specify employee names and provide specific feedback on an individual.

Today, Tello is also launching Tello for Business, a new service that helps businesses of any size improve by enabling instant feedback via customers? mobile devices. Tello for Business allows businesses to be immediately notified of feedback and can respond instantly to acknowledge praise or resolve issues in real-time. The basic version of Tello for Business is free to businesses with up to three locations, while the premium version is $99 per location per month, and adds the ability for businesses to respond both publicly and privately to the ratings.

Turkey: doctors perform quadruple limb transplant

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) ? The head physician at a Turkish hospital says his team has performed the world's first quadruple limb transplant, attaching two arms and two legs to a young man.

Murat Tuncer on Saturday appealed for blood donations to overcome possible complications following the 20-hour operation, performed by more than 50 doctors at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara. He did not provide any details about the patient.

Gene work raises breast cancer hope | Cancer Kick

The genetic code of the most common type of hereditary breast cancer has been
mapped for the first time, raising hopes for better diagnosis and treatment
for the killer disease, scientists said.

Researchers say they have ?fully sequenced? the DNA of two breast cancers
caused by a faulty BRCA1 gene, which is responsible for aggressive and
highly drug-resistant tumours.

The team from the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at the Institute
of Cancer Research (ICR) say they hope that their work will lead to more
tailored treatment for patients.

Dr Rachael Natrajan, one of the scientists involved in the study, said: ?It is
exciting to find new genes which could be involved in causing and driving
breast cancer. Now these have been identified we have to do more work to
find out the role that they play.

?Ultimately, this knowledge could help us develop new treatments that target
the specific defects of each patient?s disease.?

Breast cancers genetically passed down through families account for up to 10%
of all cases, affecting around 4,500 people in the UK each year.

The scientists said cases caused by the BRCA1 gene are ?usually aggressive?
and ?do not benefit? from targeted drugs such as tamoxifen and herceptin.

The research, published today in the Journal of Pathology, found that despite
both tumours being caused by the same source they mutated in almost
completely different ways.

Professor Jorge Reis-Filho, who co-authored the study, said: ?This research
has big implications for how we treat hereditary breast cancer in the future.

?We often consider patients with a faulty BRCA gene as one group but our work
shows that each tumour can look very different from each other genetically.
Now we understand this, we can start to identify the best treatment
strategies to save more lives of hereditary breast cancer patients.?

Using the information gathered they then scanned the genetic code of several
other breast cancers and discovered three genes, not previously linked to
the disease, which they believe are worth investigating further.

The study also included teams from the Institut Curie in France, the
University Medical Centre Utrecht in the Netherlands, The Cancer Research UK
London Research Institute in London and the University of Nottingham.

Last week the ICR, writing in the British Journal of Cancer, said all women
under 50 who are diagnosed with triple-negative (TN) breast cancer should be
screened for the BRCA1 gene fault, which also carries with it an additional
high risk of developing ovarian cancer.

It said the screening could identify hundreds of extra women every year who
may benefit from tailored therapy.

ScienceDaily (Feb. 23, 2012) ? University of California, Berkeley, chemists are reimagining catalysts in ways that could have a profound impact on the chemical industry as well as on the growing market for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Catalysts are materials ? typically metals ? that speed up chemical reactions and are widely used in the synthesis of chemicals and drugs. They also are employed in automobile catalytic converters to change combustion chemicals into less-polluting emissions and in fuel cells to convert water into hydrogen.

The problem with catalysts, however, is that chemical reactions occur only at edges of or defects in the material, while the bulk of the metal -- often expensive platinum -- is inactive and wasted.

In an article appearing recently in the journal Science, UC Berkeley chemists show how to construct a catalyst composed only of edges and demonstrate that it can catalyze the production of hydrogen from water as readily as the edges and defects in regular catalysts.

"This is a conceptual advance in the way we think about generating hydrogen, a clean-burning fuel, from water, a sustainable source," said Christopher Chang, associate professor of chemistry and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at UC Berkeley. "Our new catalyst is just first generation, but the research gives us and the community a path forward to thinking about how to increase the density of functional active sites so that molecules and materials can be more effective catalysts."

At the moment, creating these catalysts in the lab is not cheaper than using traditional catalysts, but efforts by Chang and others to simplify the process and create materials with billions of active sites on a ridged wafer much like a Ruffles potato chip could allow cheaper, commercially viable fuel cell catalysts.

"The development of new earth-abundant catalysts for water splitting is an essential component of the global effort to move away from fossil fuels and towards solar energy," said coauthor Jeffrey Long, UC Berkeley professor of chemistry and faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Chang and his UC Berkeley colleagues worked with a common catalyst, molybdenite, that is less expensive than platinum and of increasing interest as a fuel cell catalyst. Composed of molybdenum and sulfur (MoS₂), the material catalyzes reactions like the splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen only at the edges, where triangles of molybdenum and two sulfur atoms stick out like pennants.

"These edge sites look like little MoSS triangles, and the triangular area does the business," Chang said.

Using complex organic synthesis techniques, Chang said he and his colleagues created a small carbon framework to hold the MoSS triangle so that "every molecule has a discrete edge site that is a catalytically active unit."

When lots of these single-molecule catalysts were dumped into acidic water and even seawater and electrodes inserted to provide electrical current, they generated hydrogen for several days without letup.

In future research, Chang hopes to assemble billions of these molecules on a thin, ridged wafer, maximizing the number of catalytic sites for a given volume and boosting ultimate efficiency. He also hopes to provide the electrical input from the sun.

"There are many other types of materials out there for which people might want to generate edge-site fragments rather than use a bulk material with just a few edge or defect sites," Chang said. "With hydrogen being touted as a clean burning fuel that generates no CO₂, creating cheaper and better catalysts has become a big and important field now. The main push is toward more earth-abundant materials than the rare metals like platinum."

Chang and Long's UC Berkeley coauthors are post-doctoral fellows Hemamala I. Karunadasa, Elizabeth Montalvo and Yujie Sun, and professor of chemistry Marcin Majda. Chang, Long and Sun also hold positions at LBNL. Kuranadasa is now a post-doc at the California Institute of Technology.

The research was funded through the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, a Department of Energy Energy Innovation Hub and LBNL's Helios Solar Energy Research Center.

The body charged with mediating disputes on retail leases in Victoria says ?financial tightness? among landlords and tenants is likely driving a surge in conflicts.

The state?s Small Business Commissioner Geoff Browne says the number of complaints about retail leasing conflicts soared to 611 in the six months to December last year, from 501 the previous corresponding period.

Another cause of dispute is appropriate rent increases, with valuers often sought by tenants who insist that the requested rate is too high for market conditions.

Browne says it?s imperative that tenants understand their obligations and?honour their contracts, even in difficult economic conditions.

Conversely, landlords need to ensure they disclose all relevant information to tenants.

Brown says he?s also hearing a willingness from landlords to look at contractual terms.

The office started life in 2003, and typically sees 10% growth in complaints each year.

Browne says the body has a mediation success rate of more than 80%. Under the Retail Leases Act, parties cannot go to VCAT without going to the Small Business Commissioner first.

The comments come as Westfield, Australia?s largest shopping centre, throws down the gauntlet at local retailers complaining about rents, tipping international retail behemoths would replace them.

Speaking after reporting that its Australian and New Zealand portfolio was more than 99.5% leased, Westfield co-CEO Peter Lowy ?stronger retailer internationally [are] coming in to replace? stores that close within its shopping centres.

Co-CEO Steven Lowy added he would be ?staggered? if popular international brands such as Japan?s Uniqlo, Abercrombie & Fitch, and H&M didn?t enter Australia by 2017.

That could tarnish gas?s image as clean source of energy. Natural gas, made mostly of methane, does give off less carbon dioxide than coal when burned. But methane itself strongly warms the atmosphere, which means even relatively small releases can have a big impact on the climate.

?We?re seeing raw natural gas in the atmosphere,? says Gabrielle P?tron, an atmospheric scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Colorado Boulder. Her team reports the new findings, based on data gathered in 2007 and 2008, in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Geophysical Research.

P?tron and her colleagues monitored air quality near Denver using a 300-meter tower. NOAA maintains a network of such towers across the country. This one lies southwest of the Denver-Julesburg Basin, an area that feeds more than 20,000 natural gas wells.?

When winds blew in from the basin, levels of methane detected by sensors on the tower spiked. Landfills, cattle feedlots and wastewater treatment plants probably belched some of the gas into the sky. But methane from gas wells was accompanied by other components that allowed it to be fingerprinted and separated out in the analysis.

These measurements suggested that about 4 percent of the methane in the gas wells was leaking. Previous studies by the Environmental Protection Agency and by industry groups pegged this loss at between 1 and 2 percent. But the earlier estimates were done by measuring leakages from individual pieces of equipment.

?You tend to underestimate things when you do that kind of bottom-up approach,? says Robert Howarth, a biogeochemist at Cornell University.

Last year, Howarth found higher-than-expected levels of methane being released from wells that extract gas from shale ? a process called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. His estimates, reported in 2011 in Climatic Change, suggested that extracting shale gas is substantially worse for climate change than mining coal.

P?tron hasn?t made this comparison. Her main concern, she says, is to work with the gas industry to keep methane out of the air.

Kathleen Sgamma of the Western Energy Alliance in Denver says gas wells in the area have already made some changes since the data used in the new study were collected that should cut down on leakage.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? American factories are humming ? and driving the economy forward.

Manufacturers have been hiring more consistently than other employers, for jobs with better-than-average pay. They just had their best month of growth in five years. And more factory output has raised demand in some other industries, such as shipping, leading to further hiring.

"The manufacturing sector is on a tear," said Paul Ashworth, an economist at Capital Economics.

It's an optimistic theme that serves President Barack Obama's political needs. On Wednesday, Obama traveled to Milwaukee to salute a company that brought jobs back to the United States. The president has promoted the nation's manufacturing base as an engine of growth and as evidence of a recovering economy.

No one thinks manufacturing will return to its 1950s peak. After all, the factory sector now makes up barely one-tenth of the economy.

But since the recession ended more than 2? years ago, factories have been contributing disproportionately to the recovery in hiring and the overall economy.

A big reason, economists say, is that individuals and businesses are making major purchases they delayed during the Great Recession and its aftermath. Consumers are buying more cars and appliances. Companies are investing in industrial machinery and computers.

The release of that pent-up demand gives manufacturing a kick that isn't visible in some other corners of the economy. Manufacturing was hit particularly hard by the recession. Consumers postponed purchases of cars, refrigerators and flat-screen TVs, even as they continued to visit doctors, get haircuts and pay utility bills.

"Manufacturing has punched above its weight, but that's because it was punched in the stomach in the recession," Michael Montgomery, a senior economist at IHS Global Insight, said.

Factory output got off to a robust start this year, and it ended last year with the fastest growth in five years, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday.

Those were the best back-to-back monthly performances since summer 2009, when the recession ended, according to Jonathan Basile, an economist at Credit Suisse.

Manufacturing is delivering an outsize benefit to the economy in key ways:

? JOBS:

About 9 percent of the nation's jobs are in manufacturing. But last year, factories added 13 percent of new jobs. And in January, about one-fifth of the 243,000 net jobs the economy created were in manufacturing.

Factory growth has also helped to increase hiring in other industries such as shipping, warehousing, department store sales and auto sales. Railroad operators such as Union Pacific have stepped up hiring as their shipments of cars, machinery and other equipment have climbed.

The hiring has boosted struggling Midwestern states such as Ohio and Michigan, which will likely be battleground states in the presidential election.

George Mokrzan, an economist at Columbus, Ohio-based Huntington Bank, said those two states have added a greater percentage of jobs since the recession ended than the nation as a whole.

? WAGES:

Average hourly pay for factory workers making durable goods, such as autos, was $20.15 in January, according to the Labor Department. That's above the average of $19.37 for the broad service sector, meaning that each new manufacturing job, on average, fuels more consumer spending than does the equivalent new service-sector jobs.

The service sector, which employs roughly 90 percent of the private-sector workforce, includes everything from restaurants and hotels and retailers to financial service firms and construction companies.

? CONFIDENCE:

As Clint Eastwood's Super Bowl halftime ad for Chrysler ("Our second half is about to begin.") showed, Americans are thought to respond more emotionally to a rebound in manufacturing than in other sectors. The perception that American manufacturing is healthy again could boost confidence in the economy, some analysts say.

Jeffrey Bergstrand, a finance professor at Notre Dame University, calls it "factory nostalgia" but says that it is "economically legitimate."

"It reminds us of the period of the greatest growth we had in the U.S. economy," Bergstrand said. "It's also ... an association with the boom in the middle class, (when) they were all sharing in that economic boom."

Still, economists caution that expanding factories can do only so much to reduce unemployment. That's because factories have increasingly relied on automation and other advances to produce more goods with fewer people.

Many economists expect manufacturing to keep growing faster than the broader economy for the rest of the year. It's not clear how long that will continue.

"This is nothing more than the manufacturing sector recovering faster because it got hammered worse," Montgomery said.
